GGF’s operations are based at Iquitos


Iquitos is a city of 370,000 people, sited at the confluence of the Nanay and Amazon rivers. The city is reputedly the largest in the world that cannot be reached directly by road. Instead, Iquitos has a highly developed river transport system as well as good air links.

Iquitos in an old city and has a Spanish colonial history. Its wealth was built upon a rubber boom at the end of the nineteenth century. More recently, it has become a hub for oil prospecting and a centre for tourism with the Amazon’s ecology attracting visitors and international researchers. Iquitos has a strong administrative infrastructure, good internal road systems, and access to grid electricity.

GGF’s administrative office is located in the city centre and our saw mill is based in the outskirts of the city on the River Itaya.
